Why is music so important? How could such a small subject have such a huge impact on everything in life? Why are people so fond of it and its creators?

Just think, music is everywhere. Stores, restaurants, parties, festivals, nail shops, hair salons, and just about every home on the face of planet Earth. People listen in their showers, their cars, and etc. Can people even function or work without it?!

Studies have shown people are spending around 18 hours a week listening to music, even further proving that 90 percent of the world's population are music lovers. But hey, I'm not a doctor or scientist and I definitely don't care about statistics.

What I do care about is music in general. What does music do for people? How has it changed the world? How has it changed me? Well, I'll tell you.

For starters, music is an outlet for just about everyone, and it's definitely saving lives. Yes, I said saving lives. It is therapy for a lot of people and helps them deal with their problems. Music speaks when the people are quiet. Music has a huge impact on life. Let me elaborate.

Many people use music to cry out for help, and music is an effective way to heal the many troubles that people face daily. Music allows people to express themselves. Yes, it is very much an escape. Do we listen to feel or do we listen because it's the common thing to do?

I think we can all agree that it's an escape, Escape from what though? Here's a list…

Loneliness

Guilt

Depression

Pressure

Death or separation

Love

Loss

Happiness

Boredom

So on so on.

People somehow feel much better knowing that someone can relate to their struggle.

What is it about the catchy melodies and phrases that keep us hooked? I can easily say that even if the artist doesn't specify their issue, the lyrics and melody can still soothe a soul. The feeling is indescribable.

Whether it provokes happiness or sadness, music definitely has an impact on a person's feelings. It is different for everyone. While some hear it as annoying and racket, others can't get through the day without it.

Music has an odd way of bringing people closer together. When music is involved you see families putting issues aside to jam. You also see complete strangers laugh and dance amongst one another at festivals. Come on now just think about it! Coachella, Mardi Gras, Pride festivals, and even down south events such as Southern Heritage Classics.

Furthermore, in a time period when segregation was happening, people of all colors found themselves dancing close to one another and having a great time. Musicians during that time also used music to express what was happening in the world around them.

Music can voice opinions as well. Many artists use their platform to spread light on what's going on in the world. People love a good relatable song.

I hope that music has filled your life with lots of love, hope, and positivity. Remember, Music Matters.
