Hello Queens and even Gentlemen that are reading. These last few months have been an eye opener. The world has been blessed to witness an amazing part of history. The part in which a beautiful Queen was sworn in as the first woman Vice President of the United States. Kamala Harris is an African and Asian American woman who has inspired many young girls across the nation with her accomplishments. In honor of Madam Vice President Harris accomplishments I will be providing you all with 5 beautiful empowering songs for women.
Superwoman by Alicia Keys

“Superwoman’, a phenomenal song written by Alicia Keys, is the perfect example of women empowerment. The 2008 release was included in her junior album, ‘As I am’. The song’ touches on the feelings women go through while still upholding their strength. This is what makes it so significant. Women are definitely superheroes and go through a lot to protect others feelings while bagging their own. They even need reassurance at times to recognize that they are indeed superwomen. They need to be reminded that they are strong and capable, which is why Alicia wrote this song. In an interview for In Style, Alicia Keys revealed that she wrote ‘Superwoman’ to convince herself that she was strong. She admitted that at the time she had a lot of self-doubt and insecurities. “I wouldn't go back to my 20's” she said admitting to reporters that she struggled with fitting in during her early years. The song was reassurance for the artist and can definitely serve as reassurance for us as well.
Work That by Mary J Blige

‘Work That’, a song written by the world's proclaimed Queen of R&B, is definitely a song to add to our list of women empowerment songs! Mary J. Blige never disappoints us sisters when it comes to releasing a song we can relate to and feel like we are the most powerful women in the world. Her album ‘Growing Pains’ was released in 2007 and ‘Work That’ isn't the only uplifting song featured. The song also stands alongside ‘Just Fine’ which always uplifts me and puts me in the best mood. After hearing Mary J Blige experiences as a young girl the album will become even more touching to you. She also endured a lot of tough things as a young girl which has inspired her along her journey. Her testimony is just another example of how women can be amazingly powerful even after going through a lot. There are several women we can be inspired by when it comes to things like this including Vice President Kamala Harris, who walked out to Mary J’s empowerment song before giving her victory speech in November of 2020. These women have been through a lot and still thrive to become successful and leafs the next generation.
Q.U.E.E.N by Janelle Monae

‘Q.U.E.E.N by Janelle Monae is one of my personal favorites for many reasons. The song features many lyrics shining light on injustice issues, issues of the LGBTQ community, and even just self-confidence. The artist has always been known for her realness in the industry and her ability to be herself regardless of what people think. After releasing her album ‘The Electric Lady’ in 2013, she held an interview with several reporters to give them a deeper understanding of the songs featured on the album. In one interview she revealed that each letter of ‘Q.U.E.E.N stands for something. The letters specifically stand for those who she was trying to reach with the lyrics of the song. Those people include the Queer, the Untouchables, the Emigrants, Excommunicated, and those who may be considered Negroid. Women come in all forms, colors, and types including the many words listed. That's what makes this song significant. The song was made specifically for those women who aren't accepted in society. “I'm cutting up, don't cut me down” are by far my favorite lines of the song. Mainly because Women are always told to stay quiet, don't be too loud, or do things this way. It's not a secret that women, especially black women, are considered “Loud” or TOO much of something. I love this song and definitely encourage you to go listen.
Independent Woman by Destiny's Child

Destiny's child 2001 album ‘Writings on the Wall’ has several songs that shed light on what it means to be a woman and the respect that women deserve for all that they go through. ‘Independent Woman’ is one of them. The song is an anthem to women around the world who are always fighting for themselves. Regardless of everything negative going on they still manage to support themselves with a house, a car, food to eat, and many other basic needs. “I depend on me” the trio says throughout the song. They continue to let it be known that a man may be on their wants list but definitely not their needs list. Even the tone of the song still keeps ladies feeling confident and hype, 20 years later.
Juice by Lizzo

Lizzo is known for her beautiful confidence and her ability to see the beauty in herself even after people attempt to tear her down. The singer has several other songs that will uplift you and have you dancing. ‘Juice’ is one of many that has an amazing music video to go along with it. The song is featured on her album ‘Cuz i love You’ which won a Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album. Lizzo starts the song with “ Mirror mirror on the wall, don't say it cuz i know i'm cute.” I absolutely love this line! It's confidence for me! ‘Juice’ definitely deserves a spot on the Women Empowerment list. Not only is women empowerment about your ability to succeed but also your beauty and confidence. Women empowerment is about uplifting and celebrating all women for who they are and what they bring to the table. I encourage you to uplift those women in your life! Celebrate them!

Women Empowerment is beyond important. As the years go by women will continue to take over the world with their success and knowledge. Along the way they will endure many hardships that will shape them to influence the generations to come. It's up to you to decide if you would like to be a part of the powerful journey of women that starts today. The journey may have started with Kamala Harris, but it won't end there. Women go through a lot and definitely impact the world in many ways. All the unimaginable things in life, they've done it and it is a blessing to be a young woman witnessing the greatness of other women. Everything that was considered to be too tough they've done. Women are looked at as smaller beings when they set foot in a room full of men. However, this century of women are changing the game. They become stronger and stronger as the years go by. We continue to show people that we are capable of all things. With that being said, I thank you for being a part of my journey. Thank you for pouring into my dream by reading this!
